We are inviting students from around the world to join our intensive, full-time 4-year PhD programmes in both Accounting and Finance.
At the Department of Accounting and Finance at Lancaster, we strive to attain the highest level of academic excellence in teaching and research in pursuit of our goal of producing graduates and researchers who reflect the institution’s high-quality standards.
Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) is a quadruple-accredited, world-ranked management school, consistently among the UK’s top ten and has built a reputation for research of outstanding quality. The School is the most research-intensive business school in the UK, with 80% of research output considered world-leading or internationally excellent, according to the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014).
During the first year, you will complete a portfolio of PhD-level courses and seminars covering accounting and finance theory, econometric and statistical methods and research methodology. You will then continue with a doctoral thesis, leading up to the final defence of the thesis in the ‘viva’ examination.
As a PhD student you will participate in the research activities of the department and will have many opportunities for networking with our international partners and attending workshops and conferences. We provide an excellent research environment for our doctoral researchers, including dedicated office space, access to many specialised datasets and databases, including WRDS, Compustat, CRSP, and I/B/E/S, as well as scientific computing facilities and IT support.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to gain an international perspective by studying abroad at our partner schools (including many in the US).
LUMS and ESRC scholarships are available for outstanding students from all nationalities. The scholarships cover tuition fees, and include a maintenance allowance of £14,553 pa (higher amounts are possible for certain topic areas and for exceptional applicants). We also provide funding for conference visits.
