ASUU Announces ‘Conditional Suspension’ Of Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) has announced a ‘conditional suspension’ of its indefinite strike after one month.
The suspension was sequel to a meeting with the Federal Government`s delegation led by the Minister of Labour, Dr. Chris Ngige on Monday.
President of the union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who made the announcement, explained that the suspension was conditional, as it depends on whether the Federal Government would fulfil its parts of the agreements.
ASUU said the suspension would last until the end of October in order to enable the Federal Government to meet the union`s demands.
The union has also directed university lecturers to resume duty from Sept.19.
The ASUU indefinite strike began on August 14, after Federal Government failed to implement the 2009 agreement they made with the union.
