Afrobasket 2017: Tunisia beat Nigeria

Hosts Tunisia won their second FIBA AfroBasket title after beating Nigeria’s D’Tigers 77-65 in the final match in Tunis.

Zied Chennoufi led the way with a team-high 19 points in winning the title.

Nigeria’s Ike Diogu logged a game-high 20 points but his effort was not good enough to avoid defeat for the Nigerian side who were the defending champions.

Earlier in the day, Senegal had claimed the third-place game after seeing off Morocco by 73-62.

Diogu was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), headlining the All-Star Five Awards offered by Tissot.

He was joined by Ikenna Iroegbu(Nigeria); Mohamed Hadidane (Tunisia),Mourad El Mabrouk (Tunisia) and Gorgui Dieng(Senegal).

Champions coach Mario Palma was also a winner on the last day. He once won the title with Angola, and now Tunisia.
